Born in Mumbai, India into the Kapoor film family of Punjabi Khatri origin, Kapoor is the youngest daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita (née Shivdasani). Dutta was born on April 16, 1978 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. Her father is Wing Commander L.K. Dutta (retired) and her mother is Jennifer Dutta. She also has two older sisters, one of whom serves in the Indian Air Force and a well known younger sister. Famed composer and DJ Nitin Sawhney is Dutta's cousin.[1] The Dutta family moved to Bangalore in 1981 where she completed high school from St.Francis Xavier Girl's High School. Lara graduated in economics with a minor in communications from Mumbai University. She was crowned Miss Universe in 2000 which led to her appointment as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador in 2001

Dutta primarily signed up to do the Tamil film, Arasatchi in 2002, but due to financial problems, it only released in mid-2004. She made her Hindi debut in 2003 with the film Andaaz which was a box office success and won her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. She then appeared in a number of films, some of which failed at the box office and some of which were mildly successful. Her box office "hits" include Masti (2004), Kaal (2005), No Entry (2005) and Partner (2007).

In 2006, she starred in the comedy, Bhagam Bhag which did well at the box office.

Dutta's first release of 2007 was Shaad Ali's Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. The film was a box office failure in India but did better overseas, especially in the U.K.[4] She received mixed reviews for her performance in the film. Her later release, Partner opened to a good response and became a hit

Although D'Souza has said she was born in Mumbai[1], there is some controversy with other sources saying she was born in England, UK.[2]

D'Souza was born to Jeanette D'Souza, formerly secretary to Managing Director with a pharma MNC, and Neil D'Souza, a senior official with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).[3] Her family hails from the Mangalorean Catholic community, a prominent Christian community in Bombay.[1][4] Her pet name is Geenu.[5] D'Souza studied at the Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra and later joined St. Andrews College (Bandra) to pursue her Bachelor's Degree of Management Studies.[2]

She was also a State level athlete and a National level Football player.


D'Souza made her debut in Bollywood in 2003. Her first Hindi film was Tujhe Meri Kasam opposite Ritesh Deshmukh.[3] She left Bollywood for a while to concentrate on South Indian films. She first hit the lime-light with a Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan[8] and further did a Fair and Lovely 2003 Cricket World Cup ad with Krishnamachari Srikkanth. She was also a part of Mani Ratnam's stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai.[9] The Tamil director, Shankar, was very much impressed with her performance in both the ads and cast her in a leading role in his Tamil film Boys in 2003 which was a huge success.

She made her Telugu debut with Satyam and went on to act in several films which raised her profile in south India. She acted in several successful telugu films like Happy, Samba and Sye. She followed it up with a pairing with actor Venkatesh in Subhash Chandra Bose which met with disappointment at the box-office.

Her second Hindi movie was Masti and was also opposite Ritesh. This film was a moderate success.

She then played the role of Haasini in the Telugu film, Bommarillu, which also starred Siddharth Narayan in the lead. This movie was one of the biggest hits in her career and earned her critical acclaim and wide recognition. She won the Filmfare Award as the Best Actress for her performance, besides other awards. Her character of Haasini earned rave reviewes and this made her the favourite choice for that role in the remakes of Bommarillu in other languages. It was remade in Tamil as Santhosh Subramaniam in which Genelia was cast as heroine again. The film also turned out to be a rather successful as its predecessor. Her debut film in Kannada Satya In Love grossed 4 crores in its opening week thus setting a new record in the Kannada film industry.

She once again appeared in Bollywood in Mere Baap Pehle Aap alongside Akshaye Khanna, which was moderately successful. Her final breakthrough in Bollywood was through the blockbuster, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, where she is the heroine in the role of Aditi Mahant aka "Meow". Her role has been widely admired for her sweetness and freshness, and new style of acting. The movie has debutant Imran Khan, Aamir Khan's nephew, as the hero. The movie released on July 4, 2008 and was a success across India and overseas.[10] Her career in south india also continues with she reigning as a successful star in Telugu film industry. Her latest Telugu film Ready in which she was paired opposite Ram was a super hit. Her next film It's My Life, which is again a remake of Bomarillu with Harman Baweja is to be released in 2009. She will also act in David Dhawan's next film which is called Hook Ya Crook opposite John Abraham and Shreyas Talpade for the first time which is a cricket film, the film will be released in 2009. She also has the other film on her hand which is to released by mid of 2009 which is titled Life Partner with Fardeen Khan. She is now the brand ambassador of the new Fanta replacing Rani Mukherjee. Sherawat's birth name is Reema Lamba. she says that adopted the screen name of "Mallika", meaning "empress" to avoid confusion with other actresses named Reema. She has also a degree in Indian philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University.

Career

Mallika's onscreen debut was in Lak Tunoo, a music video by Surjit Bindrakhia. She attracted wide notice with her appearance in the 2003 movie Khwahish. In 2004, she starred in Murder, a film inspired by Hollywood's Unfaithful. She received a nomination for Best Actress at the Zee Cine Awards ceremony for her performance in Murder. Former Miss India World and later becoming Miss World 2000, Chopra made her acting debut with the Tamil film Thamizhan (2001). Two years later, she made her Bollywood debut with Anil Sharma's The Hero: Love Story of a Spy and had her first commercial success with her second release, Andaaz from the same year, for which she won a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. Early life

Chopra studied at St. Maria Goretti in Bareilly, as a young girl and later went to the United States, where she was a student at Newton North High School in Newton, Massachusetts and North Delta Senior Secondary School in North Delta before returning to India to complete high school at Army School (Bareilly). She began college at Jai Hind College in Mumbai but left after winning the Miss World pageant.

Acting career

After winning the Miss World title, Chopra became an actress. She made her debut in the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan alongside Vijay, in which she also sung playback, before moving on to Bollywood. In 2003, her first Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy released and won her good reviews. Despite being given a below average status, the film went on to become one of the highest grossing films of that year. Her next film, Andaaz opposite Akshay Kumar was a success, earning her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.


Her next few films failed to do well at the box office. In 2004, her film, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi released and became the third highest grossing film of that year. Her first negative role in her next release, Aitraaz, a Hindi remake of the Demi Moore-starrer Disclosure won her critical acclaim and earned a Filmfare Best Villain Award. Her role also got her a second nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. In the same year, she participated in a world tour aptly titled Temptations 2004 with Bollywood's leading stars, Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji and Arjun Rampal.

Born in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand to Ashok Chopra and Madhu Akhauri, both of whom are doctors, Chopra spent parts of her childhood in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Newton, Massachusetts and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her mother comes from a Kayastha family settled in Jamshedpur, while her father comes from a family of Punjabi origin, settled in Bareilly. She also has a brother, Siddharth, who is eight years younger than her. Since her father was in the Army, her family frequently moved. She is currently dating her Love Story 2050 co-star, Harman Baweja.

Amrita Rao born June 17, 1981 is an Indian model and Bollywood actress.

Beginning her career as a model, Rao made her acting debut with Ab Ke Baras (2002), which went unnoticed. However, she grew into prominence when she starred in Ken Ghosh's love-story, Ishq Vishk (2003) and earned her first Filmfare nomination in the Best Female Debut category. Delivering acclaimed performances and commercial success with films like Main Hoon Na (2004) and Vivah (2006), her biggest commercial success so far, she has established herself as one of the most promising actresses of Bollywood.



Personal life

Of South Indian heritage, Amrita Rao was born on June 17, 1981 to a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family in Chitrapur, Karnataka. She speaks English, Marathi, Konkani and Hindi.

Model

Amrita Rao attended C.G High School in Mumbai,and later enrolled in Sophia College to pursue a degree in psychology. While studying there, she auditioned for an advertisement for Fairever Face Cream. To her surprise she was selected amongst 60 other contestants. After that, she got many offers and became one of the most sought-after models in India within an year.

Her appearance in Cadbury’s Perk Karwa Chaut ad and the Bru Coffee advertisement helped her receive offers from film directors in Bollywood. As she wanted to complete her education, she refused them. After earning a degree in psychology, she began her profession as an actress, working in films.


Actress

She made her acting debut with Ab Ke Baras (2002), but gained recognition only after the success of her 2003 film, Ishq Vishk, in which her portrayal as Payal earned her the girl-next door image. Success followed for her in 2004 with films like Masti and Main Hoon Na.

Her career took a setback when her following releases, Deewaar (2004), Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi (2005), Shikhar (2005), and Pyare Mohan (2006) did poorly at the box office. Things turned around when she starred in Sooraj R. Barjatya's blockbuster Vivah (2006) opposite Shahid Kapoor. The film was a universal success and her performance was well appreciated by critics, earning her a Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award.

Rao recently made her debut in Tollywood, with the Telugu hit Athidhi opposite Mahesh Babu. Amrita had no releases in Bollywood in 2007. Amrita's first release of 2008 was My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves , which failed at the box office. Her performance got poor reviews.

Rani Mukerji, formerly Rani Mukherjee, born March 21, 1978 is one of the most popular Bollywood actresses at present.

Family background:

She comes from a film-clan family of Bengali origin: Her father, Ram Mukherjee is a retired director. her mother Krishna used to be a playback singer, while her brother Raja Mukherjee is a film producer. Her maternal aunt is Debashree Roy. The popular bollywood actress, Kajol, is her second cousin.

CAREER:

She began her film career with the Bengali film 'Biyer Phool'. Her first Hindi film was "Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat" (1996), which did not do well at the box office. However, her next two releases - 'Ghulam' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' (1998) - were hits. For the latter she received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Mukerji shot to instant stardom after these successes, and was signed on for a great many movies immediately afterwards. Unfortunately, most of them did average business at the box office. It was only after the release of 'Saathiya' in 2002, directed by Shaad Ali, that she regained her reputation. The film was critically and commercially successful and Rani was recognised as one of the leading commercial actresses of the day.

In November 2006, Mukherjee was shooting a film in Varanasi when avid fans crowded the set. Security personnel beat the crowd back with sticks. A media storm followed as various groups insisted that Mukherjee should have stopped the security guards. Mukherjee later issued a guarded apology.

* In February 2006, Filmfare Magazine placed her at eighth position among the "Ten Most Powerful Names of Bollywood", an achievement she repeated from the previous year. She was the only female on the male-dominated list.

* Mukerji was honored by a largely foreign audience of 50,000 at the Casablanca Film Festival (2005) in Morocco where four of her movies were presented.
*For her one-and-a-half-minute dance performance alongside Saif Ali Khan at the Closing Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, she was reportedly paid 1.5 crore rupees, the equivalent of about 300,000 U.S. dollars.

* She changed the English transliteration of her surname from Mukherjee to Mukerji several years ago. At the time, it was reported that she did this for numerological reasons. Recently, she has stated that numerology was not a concern; her name had been put down as Mukerji on her passport, and she wanted to be consistent.

* The actress was invited to the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her movie Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

* She is rumoured to be one of the highest paid actresses in India.

* In 2006, the actress bought a new house for herself in Juhu, the interior design for which, was done by Twinkle Khanna.
